The Rebello Hotel, situated on the banks of the river Douro in Gaia, opened in summer 2023. It is the result of a consolidation and conversion of several huge warehouse buildings which owe their roots to their original use as port wine warehouses.

Overlooking the iconic symbol of the metal Dom Luis bridge (designed by protégé of Eiffel) and the instagram-friendly Unesco heritage site of Ribeira in Porto, the Rebello takes its name, and adapts it slightly, from the “rabello’, this is the name for the big-bottomed boats used to transport port wine from its source in the Douro valley right down to the wine warehouses in the city, before being transported internationally by sea. The Rebello, right on the riverbank, in fact sits on top of the only working wooden boat repair and boatmaking spot in Porto.

The Rebello is conceived as a luxurious, river-facing apartment hotel in Gaia, Porto. The hotel boasts 103 hotel apartments, a sweeping rooftop bar commanding views over all of Porto, the destination Rebello Spa complete with roman baths, the Pot & Pan restaurant celebrating local cuisine, the River Social café and shop, and ample underground parking. Throughout, the hotel respects its distinctive industrial heritage, and so the high ceilings, thick walls and industrial details have wherever possible been preserved.

5 minutes’ walk takes you to the port wine houses of Gaia or the “World of Wine” port showcase, 15 minutes on foot takes you to the Dom Luis bridge, and a 10 minute car or bike ride takes you past the fishing village of Afurada and to the Atlantic Ocean and its sunset-facing beaches.

The Rebello, painstakingly assembled and developed over 5 years with design and layout input throughout from the Morningbridge team, is the third welcome addition to the Bomporto Hotel Group, which operates and manages this prized asset.
