The Lumiares Hotel & Spa was created out of a derelict building site purchased in 2013. The site once housed a private palace building belonging to the “Condes de Lumiar” (from northern Portugal) hence the name we chose, in order to reflect the heritage of the building but also to honour the association with light and illumination for which Lisbon is so famous.

The Lumiares was conceived as a 5 star luxury boutique apartment hotel. Sitting proudly at the top of Bairro Alto, the hotel overlooks the River Tagus and the Miradouro de Sao Pedro de Alcantara, one of the city’s most visited panoramic viewpoints. The building was created from three existing walls and on top of a challenging footprint, with heritage demands to reinstate a 17th century staircase (that had long since disappeared). Since 2016, the Lumiares now proudly houses a 50-unit apartment hotel with a stunning rooftop restaurant (the “Lumi”), the Lumiares Spa and two ground floor outlets, with a gastronomic pizza restaurant and an artisan coffee shop (the Rebel Café), plus ample underground parking (a rarity in this area).

The Lumiares has since opening in 2016 been managed successfully by the Bomporto Hotel Group on behalf of individual investors of the hotel.
